Foxing to early and late leaves, minor rubbing to joints and spine ends, else a fine copy, hinges not cracked. A nice copy of this travel classic, one of the best books of this intrepid Lady Traveler. She set out alone in 1878 to explore the interior of Japan, then little known to westerners, especially the "hairy Ainu" of Hokkaido. ; Small octavo
