Author is not given, but it was laid into a signed copy of Spalding's book Anchoress. Further, the book came from the library of family friends Leon and Connie Rooke. His notes on the front endpapers include notes on which sections he would read at Harbourfront, the dates of a tour, newspapers which plugged the book, and more. The text has many underlinings and margin notes as well as some tape residue and one pasted in airmail sticker (in a margin). The notes seem mainly for use at readings and include notes on sound effects. Laid in are some small notes; part of an airmail envelope from Connie Rooke which includes the name of Clark Blaise and one page which appears to be part (or all) of a short short story. I purchased Rooke's library in 2020. This novel won a Governor-General's Award. ; Octavo; Signed by Author

The book was ghost-written by major minor Canadian author Raymond Knister, an early modernist writer in Canadian literature. Fairly autobiographical. Walter Redvers…

He re-upped in the RCAF during WWII. Watters p. 275. Uncommon in any condition, rare in dust jacket, the first example I have encountered. One of the three or four most important Canadian WWI novels.
