He took a B.A. from the University of Alberta in 1915, and then enlisted in the Alberta Regiment, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, eventually reaching the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. He was wounded at the Battle of Sanctuary Wood on 2 June 1916, and gassed on 28 October 1917.…
