Here Jevons systematically presents the marginal utility of value theory, which theory marks the dividing line between classical and modern economic theories. This book attacked the classical Ricardo-Mill school's theory of value, arguing that instead value depends entirely on utility, and also that if economics is to be regarded as a science at all, it must be a mathematical science.
