Lowther 878. Green, an Irish alpinist who had climbed in the Swiss Alps and New Zealand, was one of the first climbers of the Canadian Rockies, making first ascent of Mount Bonney in the Selkirks in 1888. He made his "rough survey" with only a railway map to guide him. This was the first book on the Canadian Rockies.

A minor classic of late-Victorian high adventure and exploration in the Himalayas, profusely illustrated with photographs and drawings (most by the author himself), including eight color plates and a folding map of southwestern Tibet drawn from Landor’s surveys. Though he failed to reach Lhasa, Landor climbed as high as 22,000 feet and explored many places hitherto unseen by Europeans, making some significant geographical and anthropological discoveries in the process.
